Student Evaluations for Mind
What are the instructor's strengths? (mid-course evaluations, Winter 2017)
- Professor Mangelsdorf is extremely approachable and very enthusiastic. She makes everyone feel very comfortable asking questions in class. When I present questions in my discussion papers or reading sheets, she actually recommends other studies and literature that might help to answer my question. She often talks about the fascinating work she does, and she is extremely knowledgeable. She also highly prioritizes making everyone in the class, most of whom are not psychology majors, feel that psychology is related and important to whatever it is that they are interested in, and she gets to know students individually so that she can connect what we're learning to things that we might already know a lot about or enjoy.
- Heather is very good at presenting a wide variety of course materials to keep the class interesting and to foster engagement on multiple levels.
- She is very clear in her expectations, and her discussions are structured in a way that makes most use of the class time. I also think that she is always open to listen to all students' beliefs and thoughts, and helps to motivate them through encouragement and guidance.
- She is very good at complimenting the students and guiding class discussions. She brings me out of my shell, and gives good feedback on the homework
- She is super nice and understanding! She is also very eloquent so all her points that she makes in class are understood by me. She is also good at giving feedback. Overall, I can tell she puts a lot of effort into this class!

What were the instructor's strengths? (end-of-course evaluations, Winter 2017)
- Unconventional - not the typical, boring style of teaching, willing to add other out-of-lecture topics to make discussion interesting. Furthermore, she emphasizes on learning rather than grades - and attempts to ensure those who put in the effort (properly) would be awarded with a good grade.
- Heather provided unique insights into our readings every week, and organized our seminars well. She was always available for help outside of class during her office hours, and I was definitely able to improve over the course of this quarter through her help.
- Heather was extremely enthusiastic and always had a bunch of materials -- usually a PowerPoint -- prepared for every class. She was extremely approachable and always tried to give quieter students an opportunity to make points in discussions.
- Heather had a very clearly organized system of coursework in both classes and assignments, which incorporated many different formats in order to be accessible to as many learning styles as possible.
- Good lecturer, very helpful both in and out of class
- She did a good job of making sure we did all of the readings and attended all the classes.
- Enthusiastic, super helpful during office hours, listened to feedback
- She is a very nice lady who brings enthusiasm to every class. No weaknesses.
- Was able to facilitate discussion between students and addressed our questions from previous classes with research.
- Heather was knowledgeable and good at leading discussion
- Organized, clearly passionate.
- She was very enthusiastic and inventive with presenting the material in novel ways.
How productive was class discussion?
- Class discussion was super helpful because it was a great way to prepare for the discussion paragraphs the following week. The class was very engaging and student-to-student interactions were highly encouraged.
- Class discussion was quite productive. Heather would have everyone share their ideas in pairs before the group discussion, which would give everyone a chance to flesh out their ideas more and sort of have their points validated, making it easier to share points in the group discussion.
- Pretty productive; the teacher tried to get as many people to talk as possible which helped flow and overall learning
- Class discussion was productive and considerably more engaging than the typical discussion class.
