Dr. M's communication & very clear instructions is what made this class very fun. I enjoyed it & it was great. The design & layout was a lot better than most courses.
Dr. M is a great professor and engages students in any way she can. Dr. M created an inclusive environment and made learning fun.
This class was a great class and Dr. M was even better. If anyone deserves to receive a raise it should be Dr. M.
Professor Mangelsdorf is very caring and it’s evident that she wants to make sure every one of her students succeeds! She is one of the best teachers I have had!
Awesome teacher that truly cares about her students. I loved this class.
The instructors teaching was very effective.
Dr. M is so very knowledgeable and engaged in the subject matter. I appreciate her so much and the way she teaches the course. I learned a lot, and there was a lot of work, but it was manageable and useful for the learning outcomes.
She really cares about the students and wants them to be successful.
The teacher showed her love for the students to find a way in which she could best benefit us, so she decided to incorporate new ideas.
I feel like the instructor did an amazing job. I like that she follows her syllabus and nothing "sneaked" up on us. She was able to clearly state how she wanted things and she was able to enhance our learning.
Dr. M is a great professor & she is very kind. I overall enjoyed this class a lot more than I did most. I had a good time in class always & it was fun.
I personally felt like I learned so many new ideas and concepts that I hope to share with others or to continue to build on. This was my favorite class this semester and one of my favorite classes at Elmhurst.
This was one of my two favorite classes ever!
I loved your class Dr. M! It was effortful learning!
You are probably the most understanding and caring teacher I have ever had. You truly made capstone (the class everyone warns you about and makes it seem so scary) a delight to be in. I am grateful for you!
You truly are the best professor I have ever encountered. You are such an amazing person inside and out and I look up to you so much.
Body and Mind: How our bodies reveal and change emotion and cognition (University of Chicago)
I was awarded the Dewey Prize Lectureship to design and teach my own advanced undergraduate seminar in the University of Chicago Psychology Department in the fall of 2017. This course also won the Excellence in Course Design Award from the Chicago Center for Teaching for being the best course designed by a graduate student at the University of Chicago during the 2017-2018 school year.
She was incredibly approachable and open to feedback from students. She is extremely passionate about the material and about encouraging students curiosity and exploration of these topics. Her course was well thought out and planned so as to be useful for students in multiple areas of the field.
Heather was very good at allowing everyone's input to be heard and respected. She seemed genuinely interested in our ideas and comments.
It was clear she cared a lot about us learning as much as possible.
Her passion for her work and compassion for her students created a wonderful learning environment. She was also super receptive to feedback throughout the quarter and kept an anonymous feedback survey that she would check and respond to. Our feedback was almost always incorporated into the course structure.
I love her passion and her ability to take feedback. I also loved her use of Google Classroom/Google calendar.
She is great at taking feedback and incorporating it without losing the goals of the class.
She asked pertinent questions and never dismissed our opinions or questions or confusion. I think she did a great job of making the class a place where ideas could freely flow.
The class was structured brilliantly. The discussion and assignments kept us constantly engaged and excited about the material.
The course was organized in a way that incorporated many different types of assignments, which facilitated many different types of learning.
She incorporated our midterm feedback very effectively.
Overall, I think this was a well-designed course.
Heather is a really passionate teacher and it's obvious when she teaches. She puts her whole heart into teaching us.
Very good course, I love Heather and probably speak for many people when I say that :)
I actually like the Facebook group a lot, and I feel like the way the course has been designed so far helps me think about concepts and apply them outside the class. I find that I constantly think about what we're learning a lot, and will bring up things from this class in outside conversations.
The Facebook posts and attention to sources and media and various researcher or journalist biases has been really cool and improved my critical thinking skills.
Very passionate; Accessible and encouraging; Flexible, open to change, listens to students opinions and ideas; Engaging
Heather is great! She keeps class discussions interesting and flowing. She is obviously very enthusiastic about the research and her energy is infectious. She is very knowledgeable and open to feedback!
